self reflection [browser]

Look deep within your own soul in the puzzler self reflection by Torcado, and remember sometimes you need to take a step back. Another entry for the 'deeper and deeper' themed Ludum Dare 48 game jam.

I'm a bit confused...
The level "but in the end,..." sounds like it is the last level.
Is it intentional (with a deeep philosopical meaning) that I cannot remove/pass the blue squares blocking the mirror, or do I miss something?

Amazing game. I'm always surprised what people can create in such a short time. Thanks for posting Bart.

@Anonymous
You can turn off/on the blue squares just like you did with the other colors.

That's as far as I got as well. I don't see any way through. Nothing on the previous couple levels seems to have any effect here.

If that's how it ends, it's a really bad way of doing so. And it's an interesting enough concept for a game; it really doesn't need the pretentious pseudophilosophical nonsense that so many people seem to feel like they have to cram in.

Just go a few screens back and push the crate from the button (The level with the electricity). There is not much after this, but it is an end.

Yeah, I just realized after posting. Part of the problem is that this level has blocks that don't behave like any we've previously encountered. Namely that the left ones behave opposite; they're down when the switch _isn't_ pressed and vice-versa. I get why it has to be like that -- you might have gotten through the electricity room in either of two ways, so it needs to force you back depending. But it's still a problem that there weren't any like that previously. The similar, but different, shades of some of the colors was a bit of a problem too.

I'm only on the second level and I already have no idea what to do... can anyone explain what the goal is?

Anonymoua at 18:48, you need to "illuminate" yourself with your laser. You will need to move angled mirrors, turn off blockers by pushing switches, etc.

I'm in the same boat as anonymous @ 18:48. I'm on the third level, and it's telling me to go back, but I have no idea why. Or what I'm supposed to do there. This game is really confusing for me!

Nice Little Game,

@Ano Make sure you stand on the lightning symbol while shooting your laser.

Aha, yes, it is making more sense now... you have to get your "gaze" to reach yourself before you can move on

Yep, that last level is confusing alright. I assumed the blocks on the right were cyan (lighter blue) ones, because the switch for those was inactive, and spent a while looking for a way to hold down the cyan button in the three-button layer while still being able to get through the one below. But it turned out to be much simpler. Still managed to cram some really clever puzzles in such a short game, really made me think about that four-button layer, and the paint mechanic was really cool!

Oh man, this jam is gonna be full of these cool recursive games, isn't it? I know they can't all get polished off afterward, but that's not gonna stop me from hoping for some subsequent releases!

Any hints for the "you'd rather just get high or drunk" level?

Great game!

Anonymous 2143 - try changing colours back/forth with the "oil marks" on the previous room.

When's the walkthrough coming out? I'm also stuck on the "high/drunk" level.

Anonymous said...

@Kaden Vanciel
the splotches in the previous room change your color (and the color of the ground in the next room), if you're red then the red barricades disappear, blue for blue, green for green, etc. just switch through those rooms as you put the mirrors in formation to dive deeper

It should have a "has rapidly flashing lights" warning.

I was pleasantly surprised to see so many comments.
I hardly had any problems doing this game.
After quitting so many puzzlescript games this helps my ego.

It's the level after the high/drunk one that I'm stuck on... do we have to arrange the mirrors in the high/drunk level in a certain way?

Lighty said...

@anonymous1644 I think the one you are referring to involves the blue blocks. Note that these are a different colour blue. You may need to go back further to un press another blue button

Anonymous said...

yes, it's the blue button thing-- I will try going back further, thanks.

Anonymous said...

ugh! so I figured out how to get reset the level with the lightning bolt symbol so the blue button was left up, but now I can't pass through the level after that because my "gaze" won't reach the mirror thing (which is not red instead of yellow). help?

Very original game, I had to re-think some levels but in the end it's all easily solvable. Cheers to this one!!! =P
