100th
A puzzle platformer about a boy with a love for balloons: 100th by Droqen.
Well, call me (The First) petty, but I couldn't get past the first time the balloon stoped me from proceeding, and felt cheated when I saw the "trick" you're supposed to use in the walk-through. It contradicts the basic physics of the character being able to hold the balloon.
Also, the jump is inconsistent. Short jumps have no lateral momentum, but longer jumps have a lot of it, making it hard to know when to release the left or right arrow. Frustrating.
I have to give this one an "I" for "Incomplete," as it's the first game in a while that, like a book that makes you mad, I wanted to just throw across the room.
@kk, well, maybe I'm just being sour since I didn't think of the trick. If the balloon were, say, a jet-pack or something, that might get me over the hump.
These games we see from time to time that, like this one, have very blocky graphics, make me wonder: is it just a deliberate effort to look retro, or is there some advantage to the game-designer to use the big-as-your-fist pixels?
Hello Stevens Miller! The blocky graphics in this case were to make graphics take less time (it was made for a one-week compo) but also so that I could include other members of the community thing. To clarify, I involved a whole bunch of people in making 8x8 tiles; the tiles throughout the game are created by different people, even those without the confidence to create detailed art.
Also I have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to the jump, but I'm sorry that the basic mechanic of the game eluded you for so long.
OK, I give up. I have about three or four gifts, but am just stuck. I like the concept of the game, but if it takes 30+ tries to get from one playing level to the other, I am exasperated very fast. I'll give this one a 3/5. Definitely room for improvement.
PS: Stevens, I found that it makes a difference if you have a balloon in your hand or not when you are jumping...
I think the idea of this game is a very interesting one. But having kind of lags while jumping is really frustrating. It seems like slowmotion for some seconds while jumping, that makes it really hard to play :-/

Like Bart, it's nice to get a little backround info from someone these games we love playing so much.
For those wondering, yes it's possible to finish this game with the red balloon and with 10 gifts. Tass did it. Enter "100th game walkthrough" in Youtube. Amazing to watch! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94Lch_Qy1_s

I'm out.
I wonder if there's a secret ending if you bring the red balloon to the end...

I found this game intriguing. The concept made for some interesting puzzles. Definitely a concept worth developing. :-)
Thanks for the fun!

This game is very hard.
I just love these kind of platform games.
Woohoo!
Fifteenth!!!
@Steve: At one room, a drawing of the character standing on a balloon appears, as a clue.
Regarding my earlier post, it doesn't seem that the second room with a blue background is possible in one balloon.

Yes indeed, thanks for the info Droqen!
What's going on with the black cat and the black balloon at the very beginning?
I do appreciate the background info, and I'm rather impressed that this was produced in a such a short time-frame.
I'll give it another try.
I played it again and decided that it really don't like it at all.
fun so far (no gifts yet), but a mute option would be nice.
Pretty much agree with the above comments.
I had not gotten very far, then watched the walkthrough. Wow! I had no idea that is what I was supposed to be doing.
I enjoyed watching the walkthrough but felt the game too difficult to attempt that myself.
cant get past the fans
Awesome game, awesome music!
I was able to get through it quite quickly, but I only got 4 presents.
Aaah... the completionist in me is going to keep coming back to this game until I get a special ending :D
great work Drogen!
I know this is random. You are my last hope. What should you take babysitting?
WOW, i can hardly imagine how to finish this game with the original red baloon.. anyone of you did it?
While i was playing this i was listening to nena"s 99 luftballons and was thinking "maybe that's where the name came from!!!"
For those wondering, yes it's possible to finish this game with the red balloon and with 10 gifts.
Tass did it.
