a frog's guide to eating flies [browser]

In this short and sweet puzzle game you'll learn how to use your tongue to eat flies (as a frog), A Frog's Guide To Eating Flies by David Simon.

These mechanics are wonderful! Does anybody know if it's based on another game or is this an original idea?

I second the sentiment... really novel and interesting dynamics

Too, not sure I agree with "short and sweet," a full 25 levels, including several challenging ones, took quite a while to get through

Indeed I'm not quite sure what "short and sweet" means to Bart nowadays ;)

It's the wording the developer uses for the game on the itch overview page ;)

Movement logic seemed inconsistent somehow. He can turn when there's nowhere to go, but jumps one or two if there is. Felt like turning and jumping should have been independent of each other.

@Maxisnatch I do -- it reminds me of the game "Frogger: He's Back!" that I used to play when I was little. Good times...

I'm hopelessly stuck at lvl 14, with the second most right fly

Anonymous said...

24 :(

for level 14: there are only 4 valid positions for the lilypads. on one of them it is possible to stretch tongue to 4 long

Anonymous said...

ok - out :) the funny shapes on 24 are more cosmetic than functional but it's interesting how the game forces you into it

I love the didgeridoo!

Also stuck on 24 to get the last fly. Can't see a way of moving the lily pad another step left.

@Anonymous, any hints?

@Lighty
If you are still looking for a hint for level 24...
...for getting the far right fly, try moving the rightmost lily pad cluster first in one direction and then the other. (Need the frog to be @ +3.) Hope this helps.

Kinda stuck on 23 myself...

How do you know which level you're on? Do you have to count, or is there another way? I've lost count of my level so I'm not sure where I am.

Under the game is a list of controls & t=menu.
So I can see that I am stuck on #23.
I am fairly sure I moved the small clump on my first try.
Have not figured out how I did that, or if I should.

@Anonymous Ah, thanks - that's helpful. Looks like I'm on level 23 as well. The tricky thing about these puzzles is recognizing when you've painted yourself into a corner and need to undo or restart.

Hint for #23 rotate all clockwise.
Hint for @24 double back for love.

Looks like I finished all 24 levels. (I thought there were 25, from an earlier comment, but it looks like that was wrong.)

For level 14 how do you get the left fly? I can get the right fly by getting to 4 but cannot get the left fly

Worked it out

Oh. I was on level 42 and had to do something and my Mac ran out of battery. Now it doesn't remember my progress.
Bummer!

Level 22, that is.
