gravity grid [browser]
Capture the black king in every level of the puzzle game Gravity Grid, a combination of chess and gravity, by Berke Filiz.
Unlike some other chess infused games, this one really does require some chess skill. Made it to Level 12 then checked out. Well done but very difficult.
Thank you so much for sharing the game! I was curious about the sudden influx of players which caught me off guard. If there is anything I can do to return the favor, plase let me know!
As for the game, I can't take full credit for the original idea by Chessformer. They had already created a game where chess has gravity. I have only added my own twists on the idea, such as giving the black pieces a purpose. The development is on hold as I am on vacation, but it will continue next Friday. Latest update introduced a level editor, so you can have extra content over there in the meantime :P
Once again, thank you for sharing the game as well as giving it a go!
I clicked on "Playing as Guest," and it said, "You can play the game without an account, but sadly some functionality is simply not possible to implement without an account." But I couldn't get from there to the game itself.
Oop, sorry for the confusion! You can click "Home" on the top navigation bar and click on "Play now" on the home page, if you would like to continue without an account. Alternatively, you can register or login, which will take you to the level selection screen.
[SPOILERS FOR LEVEL 22] Get the queen to top-right (h7) to escape the 'imminent chaos." Then sacrifice your pawn to get rid of the enemy rook. The rest is just collecting the kings with your queen! (That may or may not require one more sacrifice)
[SPOILERS FOR LEVEL 17] Move your pawn two cells ahead, so that it's not in the way of anything later. Sacrifice your rook to the enemy rook by playing it to the top-right of the pawn (f5). Then take the enemy rook with the bishop (2 moves). Hope it's clear from there :)
I really like this game, I went for the perfect result with less possible moves, but I think numbers just changed one day ago, some of them lowered, some of my my double stars became single. But these new numbers look impossible. I mean really impossible, like level 21 with 4 moves. Am I missing something or I just have to keep trying? I feel dumb. All levels were solvable with the offered less moves until yesterday.
Hi there! Thanks for checking the game out! Soon I will be adding new levels too, if you'd like to push forward still :) - If not, the community levels will soon count towards the leaderboard!
The "lowest number of moves" are determined by me when I create the levels. I test multiple ways of solving the level and make sure this is *the* best solution.
Occasionally though, people find a better solution than mine. If it spoils the intended challenge of the level, I edit it such that the previous solution is still the best one. Sometimes people find legitimate solutions that take less moves than mine. Then I approve them and they are the new best solution!
As difficult as it may seem, Level 21 is indeed possible in 4 moves :) I hope that clears the confusion!
Thank you for clarifying that the new lowest numbers are not the result of some cheating or bugs. :-D I will keep trying! Looking forward to see the new levels!
Well, I think I have to report a bug. I use Firefox, and level 21 is _really_ impossible in 4 moves, because in a situation, when both knights can hit, the wrong one does. So I tried to play in Chrome, just to make sure the algorithm works the same way everywhere, and it is not! In Chrome I can solve easily this level, because the right knight hits! :O There are several situations in the other levels as well, when black has more than one option to hit something, so there could be other browser-dependent best solutions.
Ah, thanks for the report! I have been seeing some impossible solutions in the logs and that might explain it. I'm on vacation until Friday but I'll have a look into potential solutions.
We were already discussing some solutions on how to standardize these things, yet I haven't thought of using a different browser.
For XXC63: I think 5 steps only possible if the right queen captures E1 square, not the left one, when both queens are still there. Based on your system, which one does.
Yes, sorry for that! There were issues about consistency of black piece move order. I finally fixed that, but it broke some blocks later in the game. Just had a long trip so I got too tired to continue. It should be back up today!
I don't know why this is like the only website or game, that makes my laptop so hot as hell that I can barely touch the bottom of it. It even turned itself off while playing your game. Is there something going on here that needs that much constant computer power? Are you having us mine bit coin while playing this game?
Hello! I'm sorry to hear you had negative experience with the website. I will assume the amount of animations and frontend validation for moves is not as optimized as I thought.
This is the first report of its kind and I would like to resolve it. Could you please give me more information about your browser version, operating system and relevant computer specs (i.e. RAM and CPU)? You can also email me on berkefiliz@gmail.com
I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. Is the website not working for you, or are you seeing an empty page? (Do you perhaps use a very strict adblocker or disable JavaScript? I make API calls to load levels and an adblocker might disable it by mistake. Do you see any errors on the console? (Right click -> Inspect element -> Console))
It was telling me "the page does not exist" Works again now... Working on level 95 (I don't really try to respect the max moves I must say) Very interesting game - bravo.
Minimum moves are there for the extra challenge and are not necessary for the game progression, unless you are going for the top spot in the leaderboard. I felt level completion when you don't meet the minimum number of moves a bit restricting, so play at your own pace :)
Thank you again for checking the game out! I enjoy developing it, so there are regular updates!
For me minimum movre is just a different challenge... it's playing a different game. I'm now on level 45 with all minimum moves respected.... continuing.

A very creative game- love it! Also very difficult as it goes
Great game! As good as Chessformer!

anyone got a hint for level 22?
Why does no one post walkthroughs anymore?
Hi! Thanks for checking the the game out! The game is relatively new with a very low player count, but maybe someone will :)
If not, I try to be active on Reddit, Discord and now here to give hints when people are stuck! So ping me if needed!

Hi level 22 is it possible to resolve it with 6 moves???
Hints for 19?
Yes, it is :)
Hello, thank you for checking the game out!
[SPOILERS FOR LEVEL 19] Try to sacrifice your king to the black pawn, and the rest should be easy :)
OMG, thank you! I didn't think I could afford to give up a piece.

Yes 21 is possible in 4 moves! I did it and i'm not a good chess player!!!
12 in 5 moves?????
spoiler

Thank you eszterencs
I did it with safari and chrome, same result!
I was up to level 88 when the site went down for maintainence. Hope it comes back soon.

(Currently the first 65 levels are playable)
The website is live again!

I still can't launch the game again...

Works again now...

Done - excellent game.
I'll have to replay it trying not to exceed minimum moves...
