I have no idea what you are supposed to do
I hear you. I gave up, but then went back in and managed to get through the first three rooms (so far). I know this doesn't really help, but encourage you to persevere.
I got through it pretty easily. Very reminiscent of 14 Locks, but less colorful and without keypads.
Fun. Wish there were more of it.
