block [browser]

A minimalist puzzle metroidvania that can be played with only the arrow keys: BLOCK by Neopolis. If you get stuck, think about what you've learned recently, and consider if it can be applied somewhere you've already been...

what do you do after block 3?

Pretty good overall, but the bounce mechanic was a bit awkward to use, especially when combined with a vertical screen transition. Apparently I found 2/2 secrets, although only one was apparent as a secret. I'm also not sure if the blocks I picked up actually gave me new abilities, or it was just teaching me about ones I had all along. I'd go back and replay to check, but you can't reset your progress, which is unfortunate.

I came to a dead end, went back to the save spot & a map warp happened.
I died & returned to the dead end, but can't figure out how to warp again.

I had to wind my way back to the first box and it would warp me. Problem I am having is that it only warps me to where i've already been. Seems the dead end is the end of the game to me.

There are square shaped boxes in the air. Jump above them, convert into a square and then you can choose to warp between the various rooms that have one.

It only warps you to where you've been. But, you now know something you can do that you didn't know before...

got stuck in the area where it teach you bounce got to a room where I can't go back and no way forward will maybe the web version is bugged but don't want to download so will that's it for me

Is it the room with the long pink plank? I am stuck there too - I can get the bounce high enough to see the room above, but not high enough to land where I need to

Do it twice.

Unlocked 6 blocks so far.

Well, it was really fun until the quest for the 7th block. Repeating the inconsistent purple bounce mechanism practically gave me carpal tunnel. Quit the game 0/10

A metroidvania with only arrow keys is a bold constraint and it works. The hint about applying what you recently learned somewhere you have already been saved me a good ten minutes of wandering. Minimalist puzzle design like this is why I keep coming back to this blog.

For me the timing was too punishing and had to quit. Shame as the puzzle aspects were good, the fast twitch and exact controls however makes it unplayable for me beyond the timing levels.

Yup. Ditto for me.

Found 6 and gave up. I can't find anyway to progress with this thing. If there are any clues, I'm missing them all.

Agreed with most of the above, I got to the difficult part of getting block #7, and it's just too much.

Starting for block #7 involves smashing the floor below one of the "portal" blocks, but you need to be going fast, which means you need to be coming from another portal, one with a large vertical space above it. Maybe you'll have better luck (or reflexes) than I do.

Got through it. Was pretty smooth sailing until I overthought the very last step lol. I agree that the super jumping could be less awkward, and the world was a little too linear for what I like about metroidvanias. But overall, I had a good time.

I smashed the floor to get past block 6 once randomly, but need to do it again and can't repeat it. Can you be more specific?

Omg thank you - i didn't even think about double bouncing

I can try. It depends on how the blocks/portals are ordered.

On my version, if you take the starting room as #1, then when you are in "block navigation" mode, pressing the right arrow twice (from #1 to #3) takes you to a block/portal room with a vertical drop.

Go to that room, and jump into the block from the top.

Now you are in "block navigation" mode again. Press the right arrow two more times to get to the room with the breakable floor, and enter it. You will blast out of the bottom of the block/portal at high speed and break the floor.
