You must drag inventory objects to use them. Some items are never used. The syringe is the first object you use and changes color after you have correctly used it.
Sometimes the logic of these games just get lost. I was able to figure out most of it on my own, but would've never thought of the desk thing without the walkthrough. hint: it's not all point-and-click.
It looks like a Betamax tape or something, but its a card with a magnetic strip. You have to swipe it along the right edge of the door, from the top downward, with extreme precision, because it's one of those really shitty card readers.
If you are you looking for a solution or a walkthrough for one of the game links, please have a look in the comments.

1. Turn left once, take syringe and string.
2. Turn left again, take chalk, sponge, and screwdriver.
3. Turn left again, use syringe in small hole (bottom left corner).
4. Use screwdriver on metal plate in box (bottom right corner). Take key.
5. Use key in the keyhole in the desk.
6. Turn right, click and hold on the bottom of the desk to the right of the hole, drag the piece until it falls out.
7. Turn left, get ??? from the bottom left of the desk, where the piece was removed.
what do you do with the ID card?
Swipe it :)
