maze dog [browser]

Maze Land is in trouble: eight cute birds have vanished from their nests into the depths of mysterious hedge mazes. Come on Maze Dog, find the lost birds and maybe have some snacks along the way in this adventure game by Andrew Reist. (move with the cursor keys, bark and read with the X key, dig with the Z key)

  1. I love these kind of time wasters... But I can;t seem to find the last bird... I think it has something to do with the statue (I get a message saying you hear a bird in the hedge not far ahead). But where is the darn thing?!

I even made a quick map to see if I was missing something (obvious spoiler https://imgur.com/a/VeMAl )

  2. Same here. Do you remember where you got that message?

  5. @PetitePatate, It was after you go through the hedge at the statue after collecting 6 birds. But you only get it going back through (towards the statue). But oh well, I closed it and apparently it doesn't have a save function... Maybe if I feel like it I'll do it again to see the ending.

  6. @Eltonno - It's not just the ending you're missing, it's a whole set of puzzles past the storm, which was honestly the best part of the game.

Fun game, found all 8 snacks and beat it in just under 30 minutes!

  7. That was a REALLY fun, short little game. It was never very challenging, but I still enjoyed solving all of the push-dog puzzles. Thanks!

  8. Same here as everyone, this one was fun!

  9. Lovely! Super fun. Only thing that struck me as odd was the ability to move less than like one square, so I'd end up pushing the bulldog like half a square too far and having to go back and fix it. Overall, lovely game!

  10. Ha, I have earned a nice long nap. And treats. :-)

  11. I sent a picture of the sign about the storm to my friend ('seven birds flying before a storm' is a key phrase in a podcast we both like), and she responded that it was 'a nice haiku'. Looking back, it seems like all the signs are haiku.

  12. Thanks Anonymous. Now I have to replay the entire game and see if all the messages are haikus.

  13. Wow, I didn't realize that Maze Dog had been posted here! Nice to see a community who enjoyed it so much! :)

@Eltonno - I'm really impressed that you mapped out the whole green-space area of Maze Land! In hindsight, I should have included a save function, but at the time of release, I didn't realize that PICO-8 carts could store persistent data. Oh well, perhaps for Maze Dog 2. :P

@EverybodyElse - I'm so, so glad that you all seemed to enjoy it. :) Indeed, all the signposting is done in haiku. This community is the first to discover that little detail, so good on ya! :P
