2012 top 10 web games

It's that time of the year again and it's a tradition here at bontegames to present you my personal top 10 browser games of the year. 2012 was an excellent year for web games and these are the ones I enjoyed the most from all the free web games that were released.
So fire up your favourite browser and work your way through the bontegames 2012 top 10 list of free web games:

10. I saw her standing there by @krangGAMES
You saw her standing there, but then she was a zombie, and now you have to replay this game. (original post)

9. Alone in the light by @hannabrady, @manojalpa, @neogeen, George Karalis and @OneMrBean
An arctic adventure about being alone in a world falling apart. (original post)

8. Midas by Jarrel Seah and @leehsl
A clever puzzle platformer based on the story of the eponymous king and his ability to turn everything he touched into gold. (original post)

7. Xmas stash by @DoomwizardGames
A christmassy puzzler where every level seems to be impossible to solve at first glance. (original post)

6. The runes by Dronharn
Most addicting match 3 game of the year. Warning: addicting! (original post)

5. Evoland by @ncannasse
A fun exploration of gaming history. (original post)

4. Sequester by @the_exp and @ArmorGames
Enter the mind of a boy as he dreams of his deceased sister in this touching experimental platformer. (original post)

3. Empty black by @maryrosecook
A minimalist puzzle platformer with maximum design style. (original post)

2. Fixation by Eli Piilonen, @BenJelter and @thedavidcarney
A moody, surreal but above all very creative game about people and their habits. (original post)

1. Puzzles by @increpare
Find out what to do and then find out how to do it. This cunning puzzler is my number 1 free webgame of 2012. (original post)

That's it for my personal favourites of 2012. What were yours? Feel free to add your own top 3, 10, 100 in the comments!

2012 was also a productive bontegames year with no less than 5 new games that hit your browsers:
Farafalla, Sugar, sugar 2, 40xEscape, Furiosity and A blocky Christmas.
And this year I also released my first mobile game for Android and iOS:
Sugar, sugar
I hope you enjoy this list and I'm wishing you happy holidays! Watch out for a lot more bontegames in 2013!

  1. It's rare that a platformer is so smooth and easy to play as Sequester. I'm glad you picked this one, I missed it before.

  7. My favorites from the list were I Saw her Standing There and Alone in the Light. I wanted to play Puzzles, but I can't because I don't have Unity and it's a family computer. It did sound like fun though.

  11. Ummmmmm............. Have there been any updates on Minoto?

  12. I enjoyed 10, 8, 7, and 4. However, I must point out that Sequester wasn't experimental, for a game called "Cardboard box assembler" did the same cube platformer idea. It scored number ten last year.

  13. William and Sly 2? was that last year?

  14. None of the Unity games have ever worked for me. I've downloaded the player, and the games open, but my cursor vanishes when it crosses the game window, and then I can't do anything but close it.

  15. Most Unity games hide and don't use the mouse pointer, you use the arrow keys to control them, like in the 'puzzles' game.

  16. Hey Bart,
1st) for myself, my top 1 in the list is the zombie girl in "I saw her standing here". I can play and replay it again, the ending is charming and the personal skills you can add after last level are an amazing bonus idea,a bit like you did with sugar free drawings.
2nd) but above all, I want to send to you many congrats and thanks for your personal work this year again. You make us spend great moments. How could we imagine life now without your site ?
