down is up

Sometimes down is up when trying to get to the exit in each screen of this puzzle platformer by Inversion.

The controls for when you're flipped n a different direction than upright are counter-intuitive and the concept is unoriginal. A fun little timewaster, perhaps, but not much more.

That's the whole point Gerben. To see if you can go against your intuition and finish the game

Interesting little game, but not being a fan of arrow keys for movement, combined with timing issues (which I loathe) made this less than great. I enjoyed what I played, but I definitely had a moment of, "nope, not worth continuing". Thanks anyway, Bart. ;P

@Michelle sure, but if you want to test one's abilities to go against intuition, you do so with puzzles. If the controls of ANY game are counter-intuitive then the game is simply less fun to play than it could have been, for it is hard to control.

I thought that was fun. :) All the levels were straightforward and there were only 20 of them. Could stand to be a little more challenging, maybe?

well i thought that was a great lil game with my morning coffee!
thanks, bart :)

It was nice

A little bit confusing but fun! XD I finished it!

I didn't find the controls counter-intuitive at all, left was always left for the character. Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that I can read perfectly upside down.

The levels were fairly straightforward up until the end, with the last one being a little frustrating until you get the timing right.

I had fun, but it could have been improved with more levels where there were more than just the obvious choice for which arrow to choose. There was one level (18 I think) where you could get stuck with no other option than to exit to the menu and restart.

Nice little game, sometimes it's refreshing to have a game which you can complete easily rather than being stuck on a really hard game all day which gets frustrating!

gerben sweep - The controls are always consistent. Left key always moves the character to HIS left, right key always moves him to HIS right. Any other configuration would be counter-intuitive, this setup is not. It's okay to be bad at a game, you don't have to bash the developer for your shortcomings.

Hy. Really cool game. Too short and easy, but cool. Thanks

very nice!
I quit at the last level because they shoot at me... sigh...

Gentlecat said...

@Kiel First of all, I'm not trying to bash him, I'm simply trying to say what could have been done better, and if I am bashing him, then sorry. Second of all, I understood that much about the controls, but I just had a hard time figuring out the controls for sideways (I repeatedly died because I confused left and right).

clearly, gerben sweep, there are plenty of us that had no problem with the controls... perhaps you have a visual-spatial processing issue... i admit to having fast twitch issues when some platformers require a quick combination of keys... if i get to the point where i can't continue or finish a game like that i walk away saying, "dang, wish i was better" rather than saying the game wasn't good...
just sayin'... :)

Fun little game. Thanks for sharing, Bert. :)

I see what the last level is - nope!

hmmm I feel the controls when you're flipped in a new direction are VERY counter-intuitive and the developer clearly ripped-off the game Continuity. Nothing new here, 1/5 stars.

Cool game, tricky last level tho. :o)

to anon who said "the developer clearly ripped-off the game Continuity"
that's the silliest thing i ever heard! hahaha!

Gentlecat said...

@Anon 19 : 06 sure, the concept is nothing new, but Continuity had nothing like this at all. Perhaps you're thinking of a different game?

Very cool, intuitive but rather short and easy game. I like these kind of games and it reminded me a bit of the "Shift" games out there which I really enjoyed a lot as well.

Thanks for sharing, Bart!

For some reason, my computer gets terrible FPS on this. It never struggled on flash games before, and definitely not a flash game of this minimalistic style.

Fun! But I fell off of a cliff and went into a perpetual fall. :)

I figured out what to do to get myself out of the perpetual falling. Fun game. I have trouble jumping over the spiky things while upside down. I wonder if you played this on an ipad and turned off auto-rotate would work. :)

brilliant game, well found sir Bonte.

You go left to go right...
Like in Cars!

fun. whenever i get to the end of the game for these types, i always try to fool around. This one you got a box and the words The End, but nothing else to do :(
Good game overall, though :)

I liked it, got stuck once & "R" reset for me.
only died a few times near the end.
I like how they tease you with a block so you can jump high enough to get onto the words "THE End".

Fun little game!!

Well, that was over too quick. Though, if I didn't figure out that you can land on the giant arrow in level 20, I think I would've been there all day.... or at least until I did a rage quit.
