continuity

Continuity is an interesting puzzle platformer in which you need to slide tiles into place to make corridors match and travel between tiles. You can swith between sliding the tiles and controlling the character by pressing the space bar.

You need to press space to zoom in and out of the little man, arrow keys to move either the tiles or the man. Of course, you need to get to the key first and then the door.

Unfortunately, just because two tiles match up does not mean the little man can actually run between them, which makes the game somewhat of a guessing game. Not terribly thrilled about that aspect, but otherwise the concept and game are fun.

I'm trying to figure out how to tell which blocks you can move through and which you can't.
Thought it was color coded (blue can't go to red, blue can go to lighter blue can go to white) but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Anyone got an idea? I really like the concept of the game.

You can travel between two edges if they match up exactly.

Took me a million years to figure this out; my gift to you.

I don't think it's true that just because they line up exactly you can run between them. In the 4rd or 4th level, for example, if you run straight across, you get blocked, even though they line up properly.

It has to do with both the colors and with the way you're trying to go. For instance, on the first 3x3 level, the one with the jagged teeth and staircases, I could go left from the sort of tan tile to the pale green one, but I couldn't go right from the tan one to the green one.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how it works. This looks like serious trial-and-error, which is harder because I can't see the colors very well unless I tilt my laptop screen at an angle I don't like. Also, it seems like a bad decision to have you go all the way back to the key when you drop down to an impassable screen -- why not just reset you to the tile you were at?

Very clever game but in this case they went too far with the "no instructions" thing.

awesome concept =) only complaint was there was no instructions >.> Well, I do like games without instructions if they can show by simple example (ie. the part where they show what to do when there are 2 keys), but they made no attempt to show that you need the space key >< Thanks thesmothete for pointing it out~

And I think I agree with the crowd that says the pictures have to be perfectly aligned for the person to be able to cross between. So let's say you are on the top left panel. There are 2 tunnels heading towards the right and you are in the top one. You then fill the location to your right with a panel with one tunnel going to the left. Even though your tunnel is now aligned with the tunnel in this new panel, you are NOT going to be able to move to the new panel, because the tunnel beneath you has not been aligned with anything. So the "puzzle doesn't fit". Does that make sense?

A lot of the levels are really clever, it's just the ones with lots of tiles where you have to guess which ones work that are problematic.

The tiles may go together, but that doesn't mean they match up. ALL of the tunnels and walls on a side have to match, not just the one you're in. Also, both the size and direction of the wall has to match. This is going to be hard to explain w/o drawing it, but if you have an L shape (for example), and you're trying to run along the short end of the L onto a new tile, you can't just butt any ol' line up to the end and hope it will work. You have to have a line that is a continuation of the wall. So (for example), you can't just make an Li shape and hope to hop up under the dot of the i from the short leg of the L. You'd have to look for something that would be an extension of the L (like an underscore). Eesh - I hope this makes sense w/o actual graphics.

I'm on I dunno what level, but I have a key stuck under the stairs.

Hah, took a break from what was apparently the very last level. All finished now. I think the more difficult levels are like halfway through. It doesn´t really scale in diffculty, but a great game nonetheless.

Hey, they added something that gives the level numbers and I think they added some new levels too (I played level 21, with a T-shaped piece, which I hadn't seen before). Good show!

love how it al works,
and you don´t have to make ALL the tiles fit, just be sure that on the way you want to go everything fits ..

but ...

i can´t beat the last level. !!
it´s really bugging me :(
can´t get the key from the tile where you have the door on, the key on the left ..
also had to restart that level cos i got stuck in the wall :S

Looks like they did away with the different colored tiles too, maybe because they were confusing us -- definitely ignore my first comment. I can see now that, on the level I was thinking of, one way was blocked because the very top of the tiles didn't match up.

The controls on this are a little too fiddly for precision jumping, though. There's one part in the level with all the stairs where you have to land on a narrow platform, and I keep oversliding or not being allowed to reverse course back onto the platform, and then I have to do about five screens over again.

For that level you need to head into the lower right corner of the room where the key is hanging in the air on the bottom over a gap. Then use a small corner at the top left of another room to jump in a niche. click space and drop down into another room that matches with the top of the room with the key that you're referring to.

This was one brilliant game.
Haven't seen design this clever in a long time. Props just not to the idea but to the design of the levels utilizing this idea as well.
